Reason I Love NYC #7,982,544: Women’s Liberty

I was very lucky to have a friend take me to a New York Liberty game last year. I was hooked.

I love sporting events of all kinds. But I have never experienced what I have since deemed “Little Girl Energy.” Thinking about the many female children in attendance who were watching women PLAY the game instead of being relegated to cheering on men who play the game … well, that makes me teary through every game.

It’s a feeling I have had at every Liberty game (and the San Francisco Valkeries game) I’ve attended since. “And the basketball is way more impressive than I’d expected,” said my skeptical friend who knows about such things at his first game with me.

Little Girl Energy. Long may it reign.
