A Chip Off the Block!

I learned EVERYTHING I know about what I do from “Schoolhouse Rock!” If you are of a certain age (and maybe from the Northeast?), you learned what I learned every Saturday morning from Schoolhouse Rocky (a chip off the block!) between cartoon shows on ABC.

It started in 1973 with “Multiplication Rock,” apparently because the creator’s kid couldn’t learn his multiplication tables but could remember the lyrics to every Rolling Stones song.

I am quite sure “Grammar Rock,” which started the second season (when I was 5 years old), is the reason I am a writer/editor. I also learned everything I know about American history from “America Rock” (1975 and 1976). “I’m Just a Bill,” anyone?

Either to assist you on a trip down memory lane or teach you about an egregious omission from your childhood, I’m sharing a “Grammar Rock” video with you, along with my favorite lyrics. I’ll start with my all-time fave, “Unpack Your Adjectives,” from 1975.

My favorite lyric:
“He was a hairy bear,
He was a scary bear,
We beat a hasty retreat from his lair.”
